Country Director – Democratic Republic of Congo

About the role

The Rainforest Foundation Norway seeks a dynamic leader to head its country office in Kinshasa. As Country Director you will steer the organization’s strategy to protect the Congo Basin rainforest and promote the rights of local and indigenous communities.

Key responsibilities

• Strategic People Management: oversee daily operations, including HR, finance, security and administration for a team of 9 staff.
• Program Development & Representation: lead partnership collaborations, design and implement conservation and community programs.
• Fundraising & Advocacy: build and maintain relationships with donors, partners, government authorities and other stakeholders to secure funding and influence policy.
• Support Services: drive performance management, staff development, financial control and compliance with RFN standards.

Required profile

• Proven strategic leadership experience in development aid or NGOs.
• Strong background in administration, financial management and HR in demanding environments.
• Project management experience, preferably within an NGO context.
• Higher university degree relevant to the sector.
• Excellent written and spoken French and English; Norwegian is a plus.
• Ability to work across cultures, handle stress and high workloads, and act with initiative.
