Country Director for DR Congo

About the role

The Country Director will lead People in Need’s programme in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, based in Kinshasa and coordinating activities across the country, including regular travel to Goma and Bukavu. The position reports to the Regional Director and is initially contracted for one year, with a possible extension.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall strategic and operational leadership for the DRC country programme.
• Ensure implementation of humanitarian and development interventions in conflict‑affected areas, particularly South Kivu.
• Manage relationships with donors, partners and local authorities.
• Oversee budgeting, reporting and compliance with People in Need standards.
• Coordinate regular field visits to project sites in Goma and Bukavu.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing large‑scale humanitarian or development programmes in the DRC or similar contexts.
• Strong understanding of conflict‑affected environments and multi‑sectoral interventions (nutrition, food security, WASH, agriculture, cash assistance).
• Ability to work from Kinshasa and travel frequently within the country.
