Deputy Director of Operations

About the role

The Deputy Director of Operations (DDO) provides senior leadership for the IRC DRC country programme, overseeing operational functions such as supply chain, administration, IT and field coordination. Based in Goma, the role requires regular travel (approximately 35%) to field offices across North Kivu, South Kivu, Ituri and Tanganyika to ensure effective support and compliance with IRC and donor regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Directly supervise operational support departments (Supply Chain, IT, Administration) across all IRC DRC offices and field sites.
• Lead and mentor Field Coordinators in North Kivu/Ituri and South Kivu/Tanganyika, providing training and on‑site assistance.
• Facilitate coordination between operations and programme teams to align planning with the Country Programme Strategic Action Plan.
• Ensure operational compliance with IRC standards and donor rules, supporting achievement of yearly results and targets.
• Collaborate with senior management and regional operational leads to implement global initiatives and country priorities.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience in managing multi‑disciplinary operational teams, preferably in humanitarian or development settings.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise staff across multiple locations and provide field‑based support.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively (≈35%) to remote field offices.
• Strong understanding of compliance requirements for NGOs and donor regulations.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills to work with senior leadership and regional partners.
