Environmental Manager

About the role

The Environmental Manager will provide strategic leadership for environmental management across Kamoto Copper Company’s operations in Kolwezi, DRC. Reporting to the General Manager Health, Safety & Environment, the role is accountable for reducing environmental risks, improving performance and safeguarding the company’s licence to operate.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the site’s environmental strategy, objectives and improvement plans to reduce risks and support sustainable outcomes.
• Identify, assess and manage material environmental risks, establishing effective controls and verification processes.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives covering water management, air emissions, waste, land disturbance, rehabilitation, biodiversity and contamination.
• Lead the management of legacy environmental liabilities and remediation programmes, prioritising and systematically reducing risks.
• Ensure compliance with all environmental laws, permits, regulations and corporate standards, and manage actions from inspections and audits.
• Provide technical oversight of environmental monitoring programmes, ensuring data quality, trend analysis and timely reporting.
• Lead incident prevention, investigation and corrective‑action processes to address root causes and prevent recurrence.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators, government authorities, communities and other external stakeholders.
• Integrate environmental considerations into operational planning, capital projects, closure planning and business decisions.

Required profile

• Proven ability to lead environmental management initiatives in a large‑scale mining operation.
• Strong understanding of environmental risk assessment, mitigation and compliance.
• Experience managing legacy environmental liabilities and remediation projects.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with regulators, governments and local communities.
• Strategic thinking with a focus on continuous performance improvement.
