Fiber Optic Planning & Performance Engineer

About the role

The Fiber Optic Planning & Performance Engineer will support Vodacom Fixed Network & Tech Enterprise Services in developing and executing a three‑year strategy for national and international fiber infrastructure. The role combines strategic planning, network design, proof‑of‑concept testing and implementation of best‑practice standards to ensure resilient, high‑capacity fiber services.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a 3‑year fiber network strategy covering NLD, Metro and FTTH/B deployments.
• Design and test new fiber infrastructures and resilience solutions in line with group technology road‑maps.
• Perform proof‑of‑concept projects and validate emerging fiber technologies.
• Collaborate with vendors on engineering solutions, technical training and equipment sourcing.
• Manage performance, congestion mitigation and upgrade plans for existing fiber links.
• Support SLA negotiations, maintenance standards and installation best practices for corporate and governmental customers.
• Ensure compliance with national regulatory KPIs and ARPTC planning standards.
• Lead project implementation for new national and international fiber connections.

Required profile

• Proven experience in fiber optic network planning and design.
• Strong understanding of MPLS, FTTH/B and national/international connectivity.
• Ability to conduct technical proof‑of‑concepts and evaluate new technologies.
• Experience working with vendors and managing technical training programmes.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards for fiber networks.
