Field Coordinator (BVD DRC)
International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC
Job description
About the role
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is supporting the DRC Red Cross in a locally led, community-centred response to the Bundibugyo virus disease (BVD) outbreak. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Field Coordinator provides field-level operational leadership and coordination of IFRC support, translating the operational strategy into prioritised field plans and working closely with the DRC Red Cross.
Key responsibilities
- Translate the agreed operational strategy into joint field plans with DRC Red Cross counterparts, covering priorities, timelines, resources and measurable results, and guide staff and volunteers to meet humanitarian standards and IFRC procedures.
- Coordinate integrated delivery across the response pillars (surveillance, risk communication, burials, IPC and WASH, MHPSS, clinical care) and act as the main link between the DRC Red Cross and IFRC, escalating risks and resource gaps.
- Provide timely operational reporting, verify field data, monitor progress through field visits and track corrective actions.
- Implement security and duty-of-care arrangements, and coordinate field finance, administration and logistics.
- Coordinate health activities, community-based surveillance, risk communication, safe and dignified burials, IPC and WASH, and mental health and psychosocial support, with specialist oversight of technical standards.
- Strengthen coordination with the DRC Red Cross, National Societies, government, UN and NGO partners, and implement the Membership Coordination Framework at field level.
- Support capacity building, community participation and a smooth transition to DRC Red Cross and local health structures.
Required profile
- Relevant university degree or equivalent qualifications in a relevant field.
- At least 3-5 years of experience coordinating emergency and/or relief operations for the Red Cross/Red Crescent or another humanitarian organisation.
- Experience managing programmes and projects, including planning, monitoring, budgeting and reporting.
- Experience in field intervention, volunteer management, mentoring and working with vulnerable populations.
- Knowledge of the regional context.
- Fluent spoken and written English and French.
Required skills
- Team leadership and ability to work under pressure in a high-stress emergency context.
- Digital communication and collaboration, data literacy and problem solving with technology.
- Ability to conduct rapid assessments, baseline and satisfaction surveys (preferred).
