Head of Programmes – Democratic Republic of Congo

About the role

People in Need is seeking a Head of Programmes to lead its humanitarian and development portfolio in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Based in Bukavu with regular field trips across South Kivu and other provinces, the role will start in September/October 2023 and run for one year, with the possibility of extension.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall supervision and quality assurance for all programmes throughout the project cycle.
• Lead the design, implementation and results‑based monitoring & evaluation of programmes.
• Develop strategic plans, write proposals and incorporate innovations, research and best practices.
• Represent People in Need to donors, partners and stakeholders, and contribute to medium‑ and long‑term strategy.
• Directly supervise Program Managers and ensure effective teamwork and synergy across programmes.
• Integrate cross‑cutting issues such as gender, social inclusion, climate change and good governance into programme design.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in programme development and management in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Strategic thinker with strong problem‑solving abilities.
• Proven leadership and communication skills, able to manage multidisciplinary teams.
• Fluent in English and French (both written and spoken).
