Law Enforcement Trainer – Okapi Wildlife Reserve

About the role

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) seeks a Law Enforcement Trainer to strengthen ranger capacity at the Okapi Wildlife Reserve (OWR) in Epulu, DRC. The role is based permanently on‑site and supports the OWR Director, Assistant Director and Head of Law Enforcement in building a professional ranger force.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on all aspects of law‑enforcement training, including basic ranger training and specialist skills.
• Act as OWR Chief Instructor, delivering core and specialist courses to the ranger force.
• Train, mentor and develop the ICCN Senior Trainer and the broader ICCN training team.
• Coordinate with contracted third‑party training teams, ensuring transfer of key course materials.
• Support the Law Enforcement Adviser and serve as his/her deputy for overall LE support to OWR and ICCN.
• Develop and implement a training and mentoring plan to build competence of LE staff, platoon leaders and section heads.

Required profile

• Comfortable living and working in a remote, austere conservation area.
• Ability to operate in a challenging political and working environment.
• Willingness to act as principal coordinator and instructor alongside third‑party trainers.
• Readiness to transfer skills and courses to ICCN training staff.
