Legal Advisor

About the role

The Legal Advisor will protect RCS by ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, internal policies and regulatory requirements. You will work closely with the Legal team to provide guidance, mitigate risk and support business stakeholders across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, vet and update legal documents such as contracts and correspondence.
• Provide legal advice on the National Credit Act, Insurance legislation, Debt Collectors’ Act, POPIA and other applicable laws.
• Conduct regulatory watch, research legal developments and report findings to keep RCS compliant.
• Manage legal risk in line with RCS risk frameworks, log incidents and attend relevant meetings.
• Serve as Operational Risk Control (OPC) liaison for the Legal department.
• Develop and deliver legal training programmes for staff.
• Assist with internal reporting, shareholder management, audits and functional projects.
• Support contracts administration, represent the Legal department at forums, and engage with regulators such as CIPC and the Information Regulator.
• Provide company secretarial support, including drafting resolutions and maintaining the resolutions register.

Required profile

• Admitted Attorney with a solid understanding of South African law.
• Minimum of 2 years post‑qualification experience.
• Prior experience in the financial services sector.
