Legal Superintendent

About the role

The Legal Superintendent will supervise all legal activities at Mutanda Mining, providing advice to management and operational teams while safeguarding the company’s interests. Reporting to the Legal Manager, the role focuses on contract management, litigation oversight and regulatory compliance, especially supporting the Projects Department.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise site‑based legal activities and deliver timely legal advice to management, employees and operational departments.
• Lead, coach and develop Legal Advisors, ensuring high‑quality legal support.
• Draft, review, negotiate and manage commercial contracts and other legal documents, particularly for projects.
• Monitor and manage litigation, coordinate with external counsel and maintain a litigation register.
• Engage with Congolese public authorities on tax, labour, mining, customs, transport and environmental matters.
• Conduct legal research, prepare opinions and track legislative changes affecting the company.
• Develop and review internal policies, procedures and compliance systems.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law, with a qualification in International Law; additional studies in Management or Business are a plus.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in litigation, commercial contract drafting, negotiation and management.
• Proven experience in the mining industry or in a large private‑sector legal department.
• Experience coordinating legal proceedings with external counsel and implementing risk‑assessment and audit processes.
• Fluency in English and French (written and spoken); Swahili is an advantage.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience using online legal research tools.
