Manager - Underground Fixed & Mobile Plant Maintenance

About the role
Reporting to the General Manager Mining, the Manager will lead, optimise and execute preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance strategies for both fixed installations and mobile equipment in the underground mining environment. The role ensures maximum equipment availability, operational reliability and strict compliance with safety and regulatory standards while managing CAPEX and OPEX budgets.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure safety and regulatory compliance of all maintenance activities, applying lockout procedures, work authorisation processes and leading root‑cause investigations after high‑potential incidents.
- Drive asset management of the underground mobile fleet, defining maintenance strategies for heavy equipment such as digging jumbos, production drills, LHDs, underground trucks and shotcrete rigs.
- Oversee reliability and integrity of fixed underground infrastructure, coordinating major overhauls of shafts, winches, fans, dewatering pumps, decline systems, crushers, conveyors and electrical networks.
- Optimise service planning and backlog using CMMS (SAP PM or AMT), controlling work order execution, component lifecycle and replacement schedules.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors, managing engineers, mechanics, electricians and planners, and supervising OEM service agreements and SLAs.
- Formulate and monitor annual OPEX and CAPEX budgets, analyse wear rates, manage spare‑parts inventory and control costs.
Required profile
- Relevant engineering degree or equivalent professional experience with at least 15 years of maintenance experience in heavy industry, including 5 years in a leadership role within mining.
- Fluency in French and/or English; knowledge of Swahili is a plus.
- Experience in international mining environments is valued.
Required skills
- Maintenance of winches, extraction shafts and underground heavy diesel machinery.
- High‑pressure hydraulic systems, high‑voltage power distribution and dewatering networks.
- Automated fleet monitoring technologies and CMMS platforms (SAP PM, AMT or similar).
- Root‑cause analysis methods (5 Whys, ICAM) and implementation of safety lockout procedures.
