Medical Officer

About the role

The Medical Officer provides comprehensive medical care to employees, prevents occupational health risks, and manages medical emergencies within a high‑risk industrial and mining environment.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and treat common illnesses on site and manage medical emergencies and occupational injuries, stabilising patients for referral or evacuation.
• Conduct pre‑employment, periodic and return‑to‑work medical examinations and assess fitness for high‑risk positions.
• Identify health risks linked to mining activities, implement preventive health programmes and ensure PPE compliance.
• Examine and document workplace accidents, participate in SHREQ investigations and recommend corrective measures.
• Monitor health indicators, coordinate vaccination programmes and track epidemic risks such as malaria, typhoid, Ebola and other communicable diseases.
• Collaborate with SHREQ, Human Resources, Security and site management, providing medical advice and participating in safety audits.

Required profile

• Medical degree (M.B.B.S) with 7‑10 years experience in general and emergency medicine.
• Experience working on remote industrial or mining sites, preferably in Africa.
• Knowledge of patient record audits, emergency equipment inspection and occupational health risk assessment.
• Ability to develop and maintain a Medical Emergency Response Plan and deliver first‑aid and evacuation training.
• Mentoring capability for junior doctors, nurses and paramedics.
• Understanding of industrial and mining health hazards and competence in occupational injury management.

Required skills

• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).
• Occupational Medicine certification (desirable).
• Medical emergency response planning.
