Officier Safeguarding & PSEA

About the role

The Safeguarding & PSEA Officer will ensure that all project activities in the Democratic Republic of Congo are implemented in line with IRC’s safeguarding policies and core humanitarian principles. The role supports safe, dignified service delivery during the Ebola response in Ituri and North‑Kivu provinces.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and enforce safeguarding and PSEA standards across IRC programmes and partner interventions.
• Provide guidance and training to staff, community workers and partners on protection against sexual exploitation and abuse.
• Conduct risk assessments, investigations and case management for safeguarding incidents.
• Coordinate with health, WASH, nutrition and other sector teams to integrate protection measures into service delivery.
• Report safeguarding data to senior management and ensure compliance with donor requirements.

Required profile

• University degree in humanitarian affairs, social sciences, public health or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years experience in safeguarding, protection or PSEA within an international NGO or humanitarian context.
• Demonstrated knowledge of humanitarian safeguarding standards and the DRC protection environment.
• Fluency in French and English, both written and spoken.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of safeguarding policies, PSEA protocols and child protection frameworks.
• Experience conducting investigations and case management.
• Ability to deliver training and capacity‑building sessions.
• Excellent analytical and reporting skills.
