Operational Investigation Officer

About the role

The Operational Investigation Officer will work within the Legal Investigations department of Kamoto Copper Company, a large‑scale copper and cobalt mining operation in Kolwezi, DRC. Reporting to the Operational Investigations Supervisor, the incumbent conducts investigations of incidents and alleged offences, ensuring compliance with national law and company policies.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out operational investigations on a rotating day‑and‑night schedule, following internal procedures.
• Execute arrests and detentions of intruders or internal persons in strict accordance with criminal procedure.
• Guarantee respect for human‑rights standards and occupational health and safety when handling detained individuals.
• Maintain the criminal identification system and monitor recidivism cases.
• Collect, analyse, and document facts related to incidents, alleged offences, and policy breaches.
• Interview complainants, witnesses, and affected persons while preserving confidentiality and ethical standards.
• Respond rapidly to major incidents to secure premises, gather information, and preserve evidence.
• Ensure proper chain of custody for all evidence and prepare objective, legally sound investigation reports.
• Archive investigation files securely, maintaining traceability and compliance with DRC law and internal regulations.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of criminal procedure and DRC legal framework.
• Ability to conduct interviews and handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
• Experience in evidence collection, preservation, and chain‑of‑custody management.
• Commitment to upholding human‑rights and occupational safety standards.
• Capacity to work under pressure, including night shifts and rapid incident response.
