Project Engineer - TSF Studies & Investigations

About the role

The Project Engineer will lead and coordinate all studies and designs related to Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF) for copper and cobalt projects at Kamoto Copper Company. Reporting to the Manager of TSF Studies & Investigations, the incumbent will be involved from conceptual studies through to commissioning and hand‑over to operations, ensuring safe, optimized technical solutions that meet international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct conceptual and pre‑feasibility studies, evaluating conventional, filtered, pulp and dry‑stockpiling tailings options.
• Perform technical and economic feasibility studies, including detailed designs, hydrological and geotechnical modelling, cost estimation and stability analysis.
• Develop detailed engineering designs, produce technical plans, calculations, specifications and design structures such as dikes, drainage and water‑management systems.
• Provide technical support during construction, review contractor deliverables, validate design changes and participate in on‑site inspections.
• Lead commissioning and hand‑over activities, prepare manuals, define performance criteria and train operational teams.
• Manage project schedules, budgets, multidisciplinary interfaces and produce progress reports for stakeholders.
• Carry out advanced geotechnical and hydrological analyses to support design decisions.

Required profile

• Engineering degree in civil, mining, geotechnical or related discipline.
• Proven experience in tailings facility design or similar large‑scale mining infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of international TSF standards and environmental requirements.
• Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and coordinate technical interfaces.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
