Project Manager – Clean Cooking & Carbon Offsetting

About the role

The Project Manager will lead the implementation of a donor‑funded programme that distributes improved cooking stoves across several African countries, starting in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The role combines overall project management with technical expertise to achieve carbon‑credit targets and promote sustainable energy access.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise all project activities, ensuring compliance with the approved proposal, budget, and timeline.
• Achieve project targets and key performance indicators related to stove distribution and carbon‑credit generation.
• Recruit, orient, and train project staff; coordinate daily tasks and foster professional development.
• Manage registration and monitoring of carbon credits according to Verra standards (VCS, SD Vista) and donor requirements.
• Strengthen the local value chain for improved cookstoves, including producers, promoters, and distributors.
• Lead behavioural‑change and awareness campaigns to stimulate sustained use of clean cooking technologies.

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing donor‑funded projects, preferably in clean cooking, renewable energy, or carbon‑offsetting.
• Strong ability to coordinate multi‑stakeholder teams across different African contexts.
• Fluent English communication skills; additional local language skills are a plus.
• Willingness to travel within the duty stations and work on‑site for the 12‑month contract.

Required skills

• Project planning, budgeting, and performance monitoring.
• Knowledge of international carbon‑credit standards, especially Verra VCS and SD Vista.
• Stakeholder engagement and capacity‑building expertise.
• Reporting to donors and internal programme coordinators.
