Project Planner – Power & Energy Projects

About the role
WSP Africa’s Power & Energy team is seeking an experienced Project Planner to join the Midrand office. You will be responsible for creating and maintaining integrated schedules for complex power generation, transmission, substation and renewable energy projects, ensuring delivery on time, safely and within contractual obligations.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, maintain and update baseline and detailed project schedules using Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
- Create work breakdown structures, milestones, logic, calendars, resource and cost loading aligned with contract requirements.
- Integrate engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and contractor programmes into a master schedule.
- Monitor actual progress, analyse critical paths, float, variances and forecast completion dates.
- Prepare schedule narratives, look‑ahead plans, S‑curves, dashboards, earned‑value metrics and progress reports.
- Identify schedule risks, support recovery planning and recommend corrective actions.
- Assist with tender programmes, change control, delay analysis, extension‑of‑time assessments and contractual reporting.
- Coordinate planning inputs across multidisciplinary teams and challenge unrealistic information.
Required profile
- Relevant diploma or degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related field.
- Minimum five years of project planning and scheduling experience on engineering, construction or major capital projects.
- Demonstrated experience in power generation, transmission, substations, renewable energy or related infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of EPC and multidisciplinary project lifecycles.
Required skills
- Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6.
- Experience with Microsoft Project.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities.
