Safeguarding Advisor (DRC)

About the role

Oxfam is seeking a Safeguarding Advisor to join its Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) country team. The role will support the development and implementation of safeguarding policies, provide training, and ensure a safe environment for staff, volunteers, partners and beneficiaries.

Key responsibilities

• Advise senior managers and technical teams on safeguarding issues and processes.
• Design and deliver training on safeguarding awareness and capacity building for staff, volunteers and partners.
• Provide guidance on safeguarding policies, reporting mechanisms and case management.
• Support and coordinate a network of Safeguarding Focal Points, developing reporting mechanisms and awareness activities.
• Receive complaints and refer them within 24 hours to Oxfam GB’s Safeguarding Team.
• Assist with safeguarding investigations, including those involving partner organisations.
• Collaborate with technical teams (Gender, Protection, HR, MEAL, GBV) to create referral pathways for survivors and facilitate access to medical, psychosocial, legal and security services.
• Support risk assessments and mitigation planning for programme activities.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience as a safeguarding specialist, preferably in humanitarian or development settings.
• Knowledge of sexual exploitation, abuse, harassment and child protection standards.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multi‑disciplinary teams and external partners.
• Strong communication skills for training and awareness‑raising.
• Willingness to work in the DRC context and travel as needed.
