Security Specialist (P-3) – Temporary 6‑month assignment

About the role

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is seeking a Security Specialist (P-3) on a six‑month temporary appointment to support its operations in Bunia, Democratic Republic of the Congo. The role is critical to ensuring the safety of staff, assets, and programme delivery amid a complex humanitarian environment affected by the Ebola outbreak and ongoing insecurity.

Key responsibilities

• Provide security risk analysis and advice to the Hub Coordinator and other senior officials.
• Develop and implement security mitigation measures in line with UN and UNICEF security management systems.
• Coordinate security services, including movement control, incident reporting, and liaison with local authorities.
• Support the continuity of essential services by advising on security aspects of programmatic activities.
• Maintain up‑to‑date security plans and ensure staff are briefed on relevant protocols.

Required profile

• Relevant university degree or equivalent professional experience in security management.
• Experience working in humanitarian or UN contexts, preferably in high‑risk environments.
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, adapt to rapidly changing situations, and communicate clearly with diverse stakeholders.

Required skills

• Knowledge of UN security management systems and risk assessment methodologies.
• Ability to produce clear security reports and briefings.
• Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
