Site and Research Manager – Goualougo

About the role

The Wildlife Conservation Society seeks a dynamic Site and Research Manager to lead research activities at the Goualougo research site in Nouabalé‑Ndoki National Park, Congo. This full‑time position involves supervising field research, managing the camp, and building capacity among local research staff.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise implementation of research protocols, coordinate fieldwork, and participate in daily follows of chimpanzees and gorillas.
• Oversee data collection (behavioral observations, health monitoring, meteorology) using tools such as Animal Observer App, SMART, and Cybertracker.
• Train and mentor Congolese research staff in reduced‑impact protocols, data management, and reporting.
• Organize staff schedules, logistics, and monthly site reports for senior management.
• Manage camp operations, stock, equipment maintenance, and infrastructure projects.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Biological Sciences or extensive relevant conservation field research experience.
• Fluent in French and English (oral and written).
• Proven experience managing a remote field site and supervising research teams.
• Physical fitness for tropical forest work and ability to live in isolated camps.

Required skills

• Excel and Word proficiency.
• Working knowledge of GIS, SMART, and R.
• Field navigation skills with GPS and compass; wilderness first‑aid training preferred.
• Experience with camera traps and data collection apps.
