WASH Officer (Temporary) – Ebola Response in Bunia, DRC

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a WASH Officer to support the Ebola response in the Greater North Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The role is a six‑month temporary appointment based in Bunia, focusing on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and infection prevention and control (IPC) interventions for vulnerable communities.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate day‑to‑day UNICEF WASH/IPC activities in affected areas, working closely with health authorities and Ministry of Health teams.
• Represent UNICEF in provincial and local coordination mechanisms such as the IPC Commission, WASH/IPC sub‑pillar and Ebola Task Force.
• Lead rapid WASH/IPC needs assessments and gap analyses in health facilities, schools, IDP sites and other priority locations.
• Contribute to operational planning, identifying priorities, resource needs and implementation modalities.
• Monitor and support NGO partners to ensure quality, timeliness and compliance of interventions.

Required profile

• Proven experience in implementing WASH and IPC programmes in emergency or humanitarian settings.
• Ability to work collaboratively with government agencies, NGOs and other stakeholders.
• Strong coordination and reporting skills in a complex, security‑sensitive environment.
