Child Protection & SGBV Technical Advisor

About the role

The Child Protection & SGBV Technical Advisor will lead Save the Children’s national strategy and technical quality for the entire child protection portfolio across the Democratic Republic of Congo. This senior position oversees both humanitarian and development programmes, ensuring they centre on child wellbeing and sustainable protection systems.

Key responsibilities

• Own and drive the national child protection and SGBV strategy, including resourcing and impact measurement.
• Design and implement high‑quality programmes, from emergency response to long‑term system strengthening.
• Lead national advocacy, influence policy, and build strategic partnerships to mobilise donor resources.
• Provide technical support to operations and local partners, building capacity and fostering agency of national organisations.
• Represent Save the Children externally on issues of violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation of children.
• Manage a distributed technical team across multiple field offices, ensuring equitable support and accountability.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in social work, law, protection or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3 years senior‑level experience in child protection and/or SGBV for international NGOs, UN agencies or government.
• Deep knowledge of the DRC child protection sector, including alternative care, family tracing, reintegration and SGBV response.
• Proven experience writing large donor proposals (>$1 million) and delivering programmes in humanitarian settings.
• Ability to lead a national‑level strategy while adapting to provincial contexts.
• Strong understanding of DRC governance structures and advocacy pathways.
• Fluency in French; working knowledge of a national language (Swahili, Lingala, Tshiluba, Kikongo) preferred.
• Willingness to travel nationwide, including remote and insecure locations, on short notice.
• Excellent English communication skills.
