Operations Specialist – Ebola Response (6‑month contract)

About the role

The Operations Specialist will provide strategic leadership and coordination of all operational functions—including supply chain, finance, administration, risk management and ICT—for UNICEF’s Ebola response in Beni and Butembo, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Reporting to the senior Ebola Coordination team, the incumbent ensures that systems are agile, risk‑informed and able to deliver supplies and support staff quickly and safely.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and oversee supply chain activities to guarantee timely procurement, transport and distribution of emergency commodities.
• Manage financial and administrative processes, ensuring compliance with simplified emergency procedures.
• Coordinate risk management and internal controls to protect staff and assets.
• Supervise ICT services that support field operations and data collection.
• Advise the Ebola Coordination team on operational risks, resource optimisation and governance.
• Promote value for money and strengthen systems for future emergency readiness.
• Develop and mentor a flexible workforce to sustain programme delivery.

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing multi‑disciplinary operations in humanitarian or emergency settings.
• Strong understanding of supply chain, finance, risk management and ICT in crisis contexts.
• Ability to work under pressure, adapt to rapidly changing environments and engage with diverse stakeholders.
• Excellent analytical and decision‑making skills with a focus on value for money.
