Head of Engineering

About the role

Globe 24-7, in partnership with a leading mining company, is seeking a Head of Engineering to lead the engineering function for a flagship copper and cobalt operation in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Reporting to the COO, the role provides strategic leadership across engineering, project delivery, plant expansion, commissioning, asset integrity and operational reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute engineering and capital project strategies.
• Lead feasibility studies, design, and execution of greenfield, brownfield, debottlenecking and plant expansion projects.
• Oversee engineering standards, technical governance and asset integrity.
• Manage erection, installation, testing, commissioning and handover of plant assets.
• Drive plant reliability, maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Supervise power generation, electrical distribution and utilities infrastructure.
• Lead process safety initiatives, technical risk assessments and management of change.
• Manage EPC/EPCM contractors, consultants and equipment suppliers.
• Develop local engineering capability and mentor professionals.
• Control capital budgets and long‑term asset replacement strategies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (mandatory).
• 20‑25 years of experience in mining and metallurgical processing operations.
• Extensive experience with hydrometallurgical copper and cobalt processing plants.
• Proven track record in design, engineering, erection and commissioning of large copper processing facilities.
• Strong background in maintenance, reliability and asset management.
• Experience delivering major capital projects and plant expansion programmes.
• Previous exposure to power systems, utilities infrastructure and industrial safety systems.
• Leadership experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and EPC/EPCM contracts.
• Prior work experience in Africa, preferably the DRC, is highly desirable.
