Jumbo Operator – Underground Mining

About the role

The Kibali Gold Mine is looking for experienced Jumbo Operators to run large multi‑boom drill rigs for underground development and to install ground support safely and efficiently. You will join a team that values integrity, results‑driven performance and a zero‑harm safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Operate Jumbo Drill Rigs to achieve a minimum advance of 3.5 m per cut while adhering to design specifications.
• Assess ground conditions, install mesh, split sets, bolt holes and other ground support in line with geotechnical plans.
• Mark up faces according to geological, statutory and survey requirements.
• Report and correct unsafe conditions, breakdowns and over‑break incidents.
• Prepare end‑of‑shift reports and support ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 compliance.
• Assist in training trainee underground operators.

Required profile

• Minimum secondary or tertiary education.
• At least 10 years of underground mining experience, including 5 years as a Jumbo Operator.
• Ability to read detailed survey prints, layouts and ground‑support plans.
• First‑Aid certification and a valid driver’s licence are advantageous.

Required skills

• Operation of large multi‑boom Jumbo Drill Rigs (e.g., Sandvik DD‑422i).
• Basic electrical and mechanical knowledge of Jumbo equipment.
• Interpretation of survey prints and ground‑support designs.
• Reporting of equipment breakdowns per manufacturer specifications.
