Mechanical Superintendent – Mining Operations

About the role

The Kibali Gold Mine is looking for a Mechanical Superintendent to lead the mechanical maintenance function. This senior position will drive safety, reliability and performance of critical plant equipment while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Mechanical Maintenance team, providing coaching, mentoring and performance management.
• Ensure compliance with safety procedures, including LOTO, risk assessments, incident investigations and corrective actions.
• Develop and execute preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance programs to maximise plant availability.
• Manage contractor performance and oversee maintenance contracts and service providers.
• Monitor maintenance KPIs, conduct root‑cause analysis of equipment failures and implement reliability‑centered maintenance.
• Oversee the maintenance of crushing, screening, milling, pumping, conveyor, thickening, hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, CIL/CIP, compressor and water distribution systems.
• Prepare and control the annual maintenance budget, optimise inventory and spare‑parts availability.
• Participate in capital projects, plant upgrades and business improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading a mechanical maintenance team in a heavy‑industrial or mining environment.
• Strong focus on safety culture and compliance with LOTO and isolation procedures.
• Ability to manage budgets, contracts and contractor performance.
• Demonstrated capability to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Required skills

• Experience with CMMS platforms such as SAP.
• Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and reliability‑centered maintenance methodologies.
• Implementation of preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance strategies.
• Knowledge of mechanical systems including mills, pumps, conveyors, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
