Migration Health Officer – Assisted Voluntary Return & Reintegration

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is seeking a Migration Health Officer to lead the health assessment and Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) components of its migration health programme. Reporting to the Chief of Mission and the Migrant Protection Coordinator, the officer will ensure that health services meet the technical standards required by resettlement countries and support the continuity of care for migrants throughout the return process.

Key responsibilities

• Organise and supervise migration health assessments, including medical examinations, imaging, laboratory testing, vaccinations, and TB management.
• Oversee treatment, referrals, pre‑departure medical procedures, and the documentation and certification of health results.
• Maintain health assessment infrastructure and equipment to professional quality and safety standards.
• Coordinate access to health care for returned migrants, transit migrants, and stranded individuals.
• Work with AVRR counsellors to plan continuity of care for returnees after arrival.
• Collaborate with IOM Resettlement Movement Management to review and approve travel itineraries and medical movements.

Required profile

• Experience in managing migration health programmes or similar health assessment initiatives.
• Ability to coordinate multi‑stakeholder activities across sending and receiving countries.
• Strong organisational skills to maintain equipment, documentation, and service quality.
