Program Officer – Protection (Women & Children)

About the role

The Program Officer – Protection will support the Senior Program Manager in delivering integrated gender‑based violence (GBV), child protection and psychosocial support interventions across conflict‑affected health facilities and surrounding communities in Goma and Nyiragongo. The role ensures survivor‑centered, confidential and trauma‑informed services for women, adolescent girls and children at risk.

Key responsibilities

• Strengthen Clinical Management of Rape (CMR) services: train clinicians, manage CMR kits, and maintain 24/7 survivor reception points.
• Oversee facility‑based psychosocial support and case management, ensuring private counseling spaces and safe referral pathways.
• Establish and supervise Women & Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS) adjacent to facilities, delivering life‑skills sessions, VAWG awareness and peer‑support groups.
• Train community health workers (CHWs) on GBV risk mitigation and manage WhatsApp‑based referral channels.
• Coordinate with Ministry of Health clinicians, Protection Cluster partners and community protection committees to ensure quality service delivery and adherence to national SOPs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work or a related field.
• Relevant experience in protection programming within humanitarian or conflict‑affected settings.
• Ability to work safely in insecure, high‑risk environments.

Required skills

• Clinical Management of Rape (CMR) protocols and procedures.
• Psychosocial Support (PSS) counseling and case‑management techniques.
• WhatsApp‑based referral coordination and CHW training.
