Project Control & Instrumentation Engineer – ARK Project

About the role

The Kibali Gold Mine is seeking a Project Control & Instrumentation Engineer to support the ARK feasibility study. You will work closely with the Project Power Engineer, delivering C&I design, analysis and project management to ensure safe, reliable and cost‑effective solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead C&I technical design and engineering throughout the feasibility study.
• Develop and maintain design basis, criteria, philosophies and engineering standards.
• Define scope, battery limits, interfaces and deliverables for C&I works.
• Prepare engineering calculations, specifications, and cost estimates for equipment and contracts.
• Review process layouts, equipment selections and designs for operability, maintainability, reliability, safety and lifecycle cost.
• Incorporate RAM (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability) principles into plant and equipment design.
• Identify value‑engineering opportunities while maintaining project objectives.
• Contribute to risk registers and identify C&I‑related technical, schedule, cost and operational risks.
• Participate in design reviews, HAZID/HAZOP, constructability and operability assessments.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Control Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in control and instrumentation engineering for large‑scale industrial or mining projects.
• Strong understanding of safety standards, reliability principles and cost‑optimization techniques.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external contractors.

Required skills

• PLC programming and configuration.
• DCS, SCADA and HMI system design.
• Industrial communication networks (e.g., Ethernet, Fieldbus).
• Control system architecture and control philosophy development.
• Instrumentation specification, index creation and datasheet review.
• P&ID interpretation and instrumentation loop design.
• I/O list preparation, instrument schedules and control narratives.
• Cause‑and‑effect diagram and logic description development.
• RAM (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability) principles.
• HAZID and HAZOP participation.
