Senior Chemical Engineer

About the role

WSP is seeking a Senior Chemical Engineer to provide technical leadership and strategic oversight for complex chemical engineering scopes across energy and infrastructure projects. The role drives safe, compliant, and technically robust solutions while supporting project, client, and business objectives at a senior level.

Key responsibilities

• Lead chemical engineering scopes across all project phases (feasibility to detailed design) for high‑risk projects.
• Define and approve design philosophies, basis of design inputs, and key technical approaches for chemical, process support, and plant systems.
• Review and approve calculations, specifications, engineering reports, datasheets, and design deliverables.
• Develop and review chemical dosing, storage, handling, water treatment, utilities, and effluent/emissions systems.
• Provide expert input on material selection, corrosion management, and chemical compatibility.
• Guide P&IDs, operating philosophies, commissioning strategies, and operational support documentation.
• Lead technical engagement with vendors, evaluate complex submissions, and support negotiations.
• Offer technical leadership during construction and commissioning, resolving site issues.
• Conduct safety and risk studies (HAZID/HAZOP) ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Mentor intermediate and senior engineers and ensure compliance with codes, standards, and quality systems.

Required profile

• BEng/BSc in Chemical Engineering.
• 15+ years of experience in chemical engineering design, leadership, and project delivery (energy/industrial/process/utility systems).
• Extensive experience on large‑scale or high‑risk projects and recognized technical authority.
• Professional registration with ECSA.
