Superintendent - UG Geotechnical Engineering

About the role

The Superintendent – UG Geotechnical Engineering reports to the Manager of Geotechnical and Hydrogeology and leads the geotechnical function for underground mining operations at Kamoto Copper Company. The role ensures the safety, reliability and performance of ventilation and compressed‑air systems while integrating geotechnical considerations into production planning and mine design.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, assess and mitigate geotechnical risks in the underground environment, implementing preventive controls to protect personnel and equipment.
• Supervise and coordinate engineers, technicians and support teams, allocating resources to meet mine plans and operational targets.
• Provide technical support to mining operations, integrating geotechnical data into production schedules, excavation sequences and rehabilitation activities.
• Develop and execute geotechnical strategies that optimise productivity, improve excavation stability and align with short‑, medium‑ and long‑term mine objectives.
• Plan, conduct or oversee geotechnical studies, analyse data and recommend solutions to operational challenges.
• Monitor and report geotechnical performance, analyse deviations and drive corrective actions.
• Inspect underground excavations, verify compliance of support systems and enforce quality standards.
• Manage budgets, track expenses, identify cost‑saving opportunities and optimise resource utilisation.
• Promote continuous improvement through data analysis, short‑interval control and innovation initiatives.
• Mentor, train and evaluate team members, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.

Required profile

• University degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field.
• Proven experience in underground mining geotechnical supervision.
• Strong knowledge of geotechnical risk assessment, support systems and ventilation equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage budgets.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with a focus on safety and operational efficiency.
