Surveyor I – Entry Level Marine Surveyor

About the role

The Surveyor I position is an entry‑level role for recent graduates or professionals with less than five years of experience in marine engineering or related fields. Working under the guidance of experienced ABS Surveyors, you will conduct surveys of vessels, offshore platforms and other marine structures to ensure compliance with classification and statutory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Apply ABS rules, guides and statutory regulations to perform routine surveys on classed vessels, platforms and manufacturers.
• Prepare accurate and timely inspection reports and maintain organized survey files.
• Interact with clients to address technical questions and resolve issues.
• Support office procedures and monitor business performance at the assigned port.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of field operations, policies and procedures through progressively challenging assignments.

Required profile

• Degree in engineering, physical science or a marine/nautical programme (minimum two‑year study) or certificated ship officer experience.
• Proficiency in English for statutory certification work.
• Relevant certifications or licences may be required.

Required skills

• Knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides and related statutory regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and basic shipbuilding practices.
• Familiarity with ship engineering systems and machinery.
• Experience with computer applications used for survey reporting and data management.
