Temple Custodial Supervisor

About the role

The Temple Custodial Supervisor ensures that temple facilities are clean, beautiful, and reflect the sacred nature of the experience. This role oversees the maintenance of large temple spaces, manages a team of custodial staff and volunteers, and coordinates cleaning schedules and contractor services.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise a crew of 8‑15 full‑time, part‑time custodians, missionaries, and volunteers.
• Interview, train, schedule, and evaluate staff, maintaining discipline, morale and performance.
• Maintain temple areas (40,000‑90,000 sq ft) to standards set by the First Presidency and the Temple Facilities handbook.
• Monitor building conditions, report maintenance needs, and coordinate closures for deep‑cleaning projects.
• Order custodial supplies, manage budget, and ensure proper use of equipment, chemicals, and techniques.
• Perform custodial tasks such as vacuuming, dusting, mopping, kitchen and restroom cleaning, carpet and upholstery care, and window washing.
• Travel to cluster temples to assist with projects and training as needed.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of custodial maintenance or related experience.
• At least one year of supervisory experience.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to lift tools and equipment up to 50 lb (23 kg) regularly.
• Preferred experience working in a temple and relevant certifications.

Required skills

• Operation and troubleshooting of custodial equipment.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods for fabric, stone, and carpet surfaces.
• Understanding of custodial supplies, cleaning chemicals, and health‑and‑safety regulations.
