WASH Advisor – Humanitarian Programs in DRC

About the role

Medair is seeking a WASH Advisor to provide technical guidance and oversight for water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) projects across its bases in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The role combines field‑based implementation with strategic coordination to ensure high‑quality, compliant infrastructure that supports vulnerable populations.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver technical advice on WASH and civil‑engineering interventions, ensuring compliance with government, Sphere and WHO standards.
• Lead the design, monitoring, evaluation and reporting of WASH infrastructure programmes.
• Develop and maintain guidelines, protocols and standard designs, integrating beneficiary participation and accountability.
• Identify new project opportunities, prepare proposals and support budget monitoring.
• Represent Medair in sector networks, contribute to sector progress and support recruitment for WASH projects.
• Ensure quality management through regular assessments and alignment with Medair’s strategic guidelines.

Required profile

• University degree in a WASH‑related field such as civil engineering or construction.
• Fluent in English and French (spoken and written).
• Minimum 5 years post‑qualification experience in a management role within humanitarian WASH programmes.
• Strong knowledge of Humanitarian Essentials, Sphere, HAP Standards and other international guidelines.
• Proven planning, analytical, leadership and project‑management abilities, with experience in report and proposal writing.
