Anesthesiologist – Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

About the role

The International Medical Corps is seeking an experienced Anesthesiologist to provide advanced clinical care for critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit, including those with highly infectious or high‑consequence diseases. The position is based in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, high‑quality ICU services.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver direct clinical care and advanced management for ICU patients with suspected or confirmed high‑risk infections.
• Lead clinical rounds, case reviews, and multidisciplinary decision‑making.
• Develop, adapt, and implement ICU protocols and SOPs for infectious disease care.
• Provide bedside training and mentorship on critical care, ventilator management, and infection control.
• Coordinate with IPC, laboratory, WASH, nutrition, pharmacy, and data teams for integrated patient care.
• Monitor outcomes, collect data, and contribute to quality‑improvement activities.
• Support outbreak response planning, surge capacity, and biosafety compliance.
• Maintain accurate medical documentation and reporting.

Required profile

• Medical degree with specialization in anesthesiology and critical care.
• Experience managing critically ill patients, preferably in infectious disease settings.
• Ability to work in high‑stress, resource‑limited environments.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
