Child Protection Officer (6-month contract) – Bukavu

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a Child Protection Officer to support emergency response activities in Ebola‑affected areas of Bukavu, Democratic Republic of the Congo. The role involves providing technical, operational and administrative assistance for child protection and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) interventions over a six‑month period.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in programme planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting for child protection services.
• Coordinate with government counterparts, UN agencies, NGOs and implementing partners to ensure timely delivery of interventions.
• Support emergency response planning and contribute to the development of sectoral strategies.
• Facilitate capacity‑building activities, quality assurance and knowledge management within the team.
• Provide administrative support for coordination meetings and partnership activities.

Required profile

• University degree in international development, human rights, psychology, sociology, international law or a related social science field.
• Minimum two years of professional experience in child protection, humanitarian response or related sectors.
• Demonstrated ability to work in complex, insecure environments and adapt to evolving contexts.
• Strong coordination and communication skills, with a focus on cultural sensitivity.
