Country Director – Democratic Republic of the Congo

About the role

Trócaire is seeking a visionary Country Director to lead its programme in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Based in Bunia, you will provide strategic direction for a team of 25 professionals and manage a portfolio of 16 local and national partners, addressing complex humanitarian and development challenges in Eastern DRC.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall strategic leadership for the Country Office and align activities with Trócaire’s international mission.
• Guide the country programme to deliver impact in peacebuilding, livelihoods, gender equality, and humanitarian assistance.
• Lead advocacy and policy engagement with local, national, and international decision‑makers.
• Oversee partnership management, ensuring capacity‑building for 16 local organisations.
• Manage budgets, operational compliance, and reporting to the Head of Portfolio, Fragile & Conflict Affected States.
• Represent Trócaire in external forums and maintain strong relationships with donors and stakeholders.
• Travel regularly to project sites, partner offices, Goma, Kinshasa and occasional trips outside the DRC.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience in humanitarian or development programmes, preferably in conflict‑affected settings.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage large, multi‑partner portfolios.
• Strong advocacy skills with experience influencing policy at multiple levels.
• Demonstrated commitment to local partnership approaches and capacity‑building.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement abilities.
