Country Director for DR Congo

About the role

The Country Director will be the principal representative of People in Need (PIN) in the Democratic Republic of Congo, leading the overall strategic direction and management of the country programme. Based in Kinshasa with regular travel to Goma and Bukavu, the role combines external representation, donor engagement, and oversight of programme implementation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership aligned with PIN’s mission, vision, and values.
• Represent PIN and build strategic relationships with donors, NGOs, government authorities, and coordination platforms.
• Enhance PIN’s visibility, reputation, and influence through engagement in relevant forums.
• Identify and pursue funding opportunities and donor partnerships.
• Lead the implementation of medium‑ and short‑term plans in coordination with headquarters.
• Oversee security, risk management, support functions, and human‑resource development.
• Manage and develop the national team operating from Bukavu and field locations.

Required profile

• Senior leadership experience in humanitarian or development programmes.
• Proven track record in donor relations and fundraising.
• Experience managing national staff and multi‑site operations.
• Familiarity with the DRC context, especially conflict‑affected areas of South Kivu.
• Ability to travel regularly within the country.
