Country Director for DR Congo

About the role

The Country Director will be the principal representative of People In Need (PIN) in the Democratic Republic of Congo, leading the country programme from Kinshasa and overseeing operations in Bukavu, Goma and other field locations. The role combines strategic leadership, donor and partner engagement, and overall programme oversight to ensure the delivery of humanitarian and development interventions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction aligned with PIN’s mission, vision and values.
• Represent PIN to donors, NGOs, government authorities, coordination platforms and other key stakeholders.
• Strengthen PIN’s visibility and influence in the DRC through networking, communication and participation in relevant forums.
• Identify and pursue funding opportunities and donor partnerships to sustain and grow the programme.
• Oversee implementation of medium‑ and short‑term plans in coordination with headquarters, ensuring resources are in place.
• Manage security, risk, support functions and human‑resource development for the national team.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in senior leadership roles within humanitarian or development NGOs.
• Proven ability to build and maintain strategic relationships with donors, partners and authorities.
• Strong understanding of the DRC context, especially conflict‑affected areas of South Kivu.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and advocacy skills.
• Ability to travel regularly to remote and hard‑to‑access locations.
