Deputy Emergency Programs Director

About the role

The Deputy Emergency Programs Director will partner with the Emergency Programs Director to lead Mercy Corps’ $60 million humanitarian portfolio in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This senior position provides strategic vision, oversees program managers, and ensures effective delivery of emergency projects funded by major donors.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Emergency Programs Director in overall leadership and strategic planning for the humanitarian portfolio.
• Manage and mentor humanitarian program managers, ensuring coordination and high‑impact delivery.
• Represent Mercy Corps with donors, government entities, partners, and other stakeholders.
• Oversee inclusive, high‑quality programming, reporting, and donor relationship management.
• Assist in identifying new funding opportunities, proposal design, and development.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in humanitarian program management and emergency response.
• Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and detail‑orientation.
• Excellent communication and networking abilities with donors and partners.
• Proven ability to coordinate multi‑disciplinary teams across complex environments.
