About the role
The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), in partnership with the Institut Congolais pour la Conservation de la Nature (ICCN), is seeking a Law Enforcement Trainer to design and deliver a comprehensive capacity‑building programme for the ecoguard force of Kahuzi‑Biega National Park (KBNP). Based permanently at the park headquarters in Tshivanga, the trainer will work closely with the Park Director, Deputy Park Director and the Law Enforcement Advisor.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement a systematic law‑enforcement training and mentoring plan for all KBNP staff, focusing on ecoguard platoon and section leaders.
- Create, roll out, and train staff on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and a Systemic Approach to Training (SAT).
- Deliver annual training modules on communications, human rights, gender equality and conflict sensitivity.
- Coordinate the selection, induction and ongoing development of a cadre of ecoguard trainers.
- Assist in procuring and managing external consultants for specialised training components.
- Supervise routine patrol operations, inspections and reporting to ensure training translates into effective field performance.
Required profile
- Proven experience in law‑enforcement training, preferably within protected‑area or wildlife‑conservation contexts.
- Ability to work in remote, austere environments and adapt to challenging political settings.
- Strong coordination skills to liaise with park management, WCS staff and ICCN partners.
- Fluency in French and English.
Required skills
- Curriculum development for law‑enforcement and security training.
- Knowledge of SOP creation and implementation.
- Facilitation and adult‑learning techniques.
