Health, Safety & Environment Manager

About the role

The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager will lead the development, implementation and oversight of the company’s HSE management system. Reporting to senior leadership, the role ensures compliance with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, Vodacom/Vodafone standards and local regulations while fostering a safe workplace across all sites.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement an HSE management system aligned with ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and corporate requirements.
• Conduct site inspections, identify hazards and enforce corrective actions.
• Evaluate risks with senior leaders, establish controls and monitor compliance.
• Train Vodacom staff and suppliers on general and job‑specific HSE topics.
• Investigate incidents and accidents, produce reports and drive preventive actions.
• Prepare and submit HSE documentation for new projects, audits and permits.
• Advise management on risk levels and compliance status of projects.
• Implement digital tools to assess and monitor HSE risks across projects.
• Carry out regular audits and inspections to ensure ongoing compliance.
• Maintain the HSE budget, forecast and control expenditures.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of HSE management experience in a large, preferably telecom, organization.
• Proven experience managing multi‑project, multi‑country HSE initiatives.
• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science or related field.
• Relevant certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA or Certified Lead Implementer for ISO 45001/14001.
• Strong knowledge of HSE legislation and industry best practices.
