MHPSS Assistant – Community Mental Health Support

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Assistant to join a mobile outbreak‑response team in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Working under the Senior Integrated Protection Officer, you will deliver direct psychosocial services to communities and health facilities affected by the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak.

Key responsibilities

• Provide Psychological First Aid (PFA) to Ebola‑affected individuals, survivors, families and frontline workers.
• Facilitate individual and group psychosocial support sessions in community settings and health facilities.
• Assist in adapting and implementing MHPSS curricula for the outbreak context.
• Train and supervise community‑level PSS focal points and psychosocial assistants.
• Contribute to feasibility assessments and develop standard operating procedures for safe MHPSS delivery.
• Coordinate closely with social workers, health staff, RCCE colleagues and the protection team to ensure a consistent, protection‑focused approach.

Required profile

• Experience delivering MHPSS services in humanitarian or emergency settings.
• Ability to work in a mobile, multidisciplinary team under the supervision of senior protection staff.
• Strong communication skills for training and community engagement.
• Willingness to work in remote, high‑risk environments affected by Ebola.
