Psychosocial Assistant - OCC

About the role

The Psychosocial Assistant supports the delivery of high‑quality mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services for children and accompanying adults affected by the Ebola response within the Observation and Care Centre (OCC). Working closely with child protection, health, nutrition, WASH and case‑management teams, the role ensures an integrated, child‑centred response.

Key responsibilities

• Implement age‑appropriate psychosocial activities for children and caregivers in the OCC.
• Identify signs of psychosocial distress and refer individuals to specialised MHPSS or other services.
• Facilitate recreational, expressive and group activities that promote emotional well‑being, resilience and social connections.
• Assist the MHPSS Manager in developing and monitoring individual and collective support plans based on assessed needs.
• Provide first‑line psychosocial support and maintain clear communication with multidisciplinary partners.

Required profile

• Experience or training in child‑focused psychosocial support or mental health.
• Ability to work in a multi‑sectoral humanitarian environment and adapt to emergency contexts.
• Strong interpersonal skills for working with vulnerable children, families and partners.
• Commitment to safeguarding and child protection standards.
