West Africa Regional Technical Advisor I – Polio

About the role

The West Africa Regional Technical Advisor I (Polio) will lead the STRIDES activity’s polio eradication portfolio across West Africa. Working remotely, the Advisor will provide strategic and technical guidance on surveillance, laboratory strengthening, data analysis, and outbreak response, ensuring alignment with global and national policies.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical oversight of polio surveillance, biosafety, laboratory operations, specimen management and data quality in assigned countries.
• Collaborate with global, regional and country teams to adapt interventions to evolving epidemiologic contexts.
• Mentor and strengthen capacity of country‑level teams, local partners and government counterparts.
• Develop tools, guidance documents and learning products to enhance the STRIDES polio portfolio.
• Represent STRIDES with donors and stakeholders such as the U.S. Department of State, UNICEF, CDC and GPEI technical groups.
• Ensure compliance with donor regulations, contractual obligations and quality standards.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in infectious disease surveillance, laboratory systems and polio eradication initiatives.
• Proven ability to work across multicultural teams and provide high‑level technical assistance.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a track record of delivering results in complex environments.
