Communications Officer (Community Engagement)

About the role

The Communications Officer (Community Engagement) will work under the supervision of the Head of Area Office in Goma and the technical lead of the Communication, Advocacy and Marketing Unit in DRC. The role focuses on building and maintaining relationships with community groups, youth, civil society, women’s associations, disability groups, universities and other partners to ensure effective outreach and feedback mechanisms.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and support outreach activities such as presentations, debates, open days, and events linked to International Days, sports or cultural activities organized by WFP partners.
• Prepare official letters for partner organisations before and after events.
• Participate in WhatsApp groups with prospective partners, follow up on information requests and comments.
• Collaborate with Programme, Supply Chain, Protection, Access and other units to enhance communication and feedback loops.
• Process written feedback forms and forward any critical feedback to relevant colleagues.
• Record all community engagement meetings and events in the designated tracker.
• Develop radio messages, oversee translation into local languages, edit content and select appropriate radio partners.
• Support vendor creation for new partners, manage paperwork and alternative payment modalities.
• Work with partners on community participation, theatre, research and influencer networks.
• Supervise interns, train colleagues and partners on community‑engagement best practices.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in behavioural sciences, anthropology, international relations or a related field, or a first degree with additional relevant experience or training.
• At least one year of progressively responsible professional experience in community communication, social behaviour or development communications, preferably within the UN system or a similar environment.
