About the role
The Communications Officer (Community Engagement) supports outreach and information sharing with diverse community groups in Goma, under the supervision of the Head of Area Office and the Communication, Advocacy and Marketing Unit. The role ensures effective dialogue between WFP and local stakeholders, captures feedback, and contributes to radio messaging and partner coordination.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct and support outreach activities with community, youth, civil society, women’s associations, disability groups, universities and other partners.
- Prepare official letters for organizations before and after events.
- Participate in WhatsApp groups with prospective partners, follow up on information requests, and relay feedback to relevant units.
- Collaborate with Programme, Supply Chain, Protection, Access and other functional units to enhance communication and feedback loops.
- Process written feedback forms and ensure critical issues are forwarded to appropriate colleagues.
- Record all community engagement meetings and events in tracking tools.
- Develop radio messages, oversee translation into local languages, and select suitable radio partners for broadcasts.
- Support vendor creation for new partners, arrange alternative payment modalities, and assist partners in community theatre, research and participation.
- Build networks of influencers, academics, students and media; supervise interns and train colleagues on best practices.
Required profile
- Advanced university degree in behavioural sciences, anthropology, international relations or a related field, or a first degree with relevant work experience.
- At least one year of progressively responsible professional experience in community communication, social behaviour or development communications, preferably within the UN system or a comparable environment.
