About the role
The Communications Officer (Community Engagement) supports the Head of Area Office in Goma and the Communication, Advocacy and Marketing Unit in DRC. The role focuses on building relationships with community groups, youth, civil society, women’s associations, universities and other partners to ensure effective two‑way communication and feedback for WFP activities.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and support outreach activities such as presentations, debates, open days and events linked to International Days, sports or cultural programmes.
- Draft and manage official correspondence with partner organisations before and after events.
- Participate in WhatsApp groups with prospective partners, follow up on information requests and relay feedback to relevant units.
- Collaborate with Programme, Supply Chain, Protection, Access and other units to share information and capture community feedback.
- Maintain a tracker of all community engagement meetings, events and feedback forms.
- Develop radio messages, oversee translation into local languages and coordinate broadcasts with selected radio partners.
- Support vendor creation for new partners, arrange alternative payment modalities and supervise any interns.
Required profile
- Advanced university degree in behavioural sciences, anthropology, international relations or a related field, or a first degree with relevant experience.
- At least one year of progressive professional experience in community communication, preferably within the UN system.
- Fluency in French (C level) and English (B level); knowledge of at least one DRC national language is an asset.
Required skills
- Strong strategic and risk communication abilities.
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to tailor messages to diverse audiences.
- Experience developing and translating radio messaging for community audiences.
- Proactive organisation, time‑management and ability to meet tight deadlines.
