Consultant – World Bank Agricultural Research Development Project

About the role

The Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria is seeking a Consultant to support the World Bank Agricultural Research Development Project across several northern states. The role will guide the design and implementation of agricultural strategies that align with the Council’s vision and the broader SAO Group objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a comprehensive agricultural strategy in line with the Council’s vision and SAO Group goals.
• Oversee farm operations for multiple projects, including production, processing, and sales within Special Agricultural Processing Zones (SAPZ).
• Implement sustainable farming practices to optimize resource use, improve yields and ensure environmental responsibility.
• Drive profitability through resource allocation, cost control and revenue generation strategies.
• Monitor industry trends, evaluate new technologies and introduce innovative practices to boost productivity.
• Represent the Council at meetings with agricultural agencies and pursue funding and grant opportunities.
• Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, suppliers, local communities and investors.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness or a related field; Master’s degree is a plus.
• Minimum 2 + years of experience managing diverse agricultural operations.
• Proven track record in developing and implementing strategic agricultural plans.
• Strong understanding of sustainable farming practices and environmental responsibility.
• Solid financial acumen with experience in budgeting and cost management.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Special Agricultural Processing Zones (SAPZ) frameworks.
