Country Director – Democratic Republic of Congo

About the role

The Country Director serves as the official representative and senior leader of Women for Women International in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This role defines the vision and strategy for the country office, oversees all programmatic and operational activities, and ensures that high‑quality services create sustainable impact for thousands of women each year.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the country’s strategic plan, annual work plans and budgets.
• Lead a professional team delivering a 12‑month gender‑transformative graduation program and related initiatives.
• Represent the organization to donors, government, civil society and partners, cultivating new funding and partnership opportunities.
• Secure and manage resources to meet partnership goals and scale program impact.
• Oversee financial, administrative and logistical functions, ensuring compliance with donor requirements and organizational standards.
• Drive monitoring, evaluation and learning processes to improve program effectiveness.
• Advocate for women’s empowerment and engage men as allies through Change Agent activities.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in gender‑focused development or humanitarian programming.
• Demonstrated ability to build capacity, mentor staff and manage multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong commitment to women’s empowerment and experience delivering transformative interventions.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to represent the organization publicly.
• Capacity to operate effectively in unstable and challenging environments.
